Welcome to this week's Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. We’re in for a wet week ahead, with showers forecast right through to the middle of next week. The heaviest rain is expected on Monday and Tuesday, so be prepared for some soggy conditions. Estuary fishos should plan to hit the water early each day to avoid the windy conditions that are also expected throughout the week. Offshore fishing looks tough, with Wednesday and Thursday next week offering the only reasonable windows to head out.
Several closures are currently in effect: Australian Bass are off-limits in all Queensland tidal waters until August 31, while the Snapper and Pearl Perch closure continues until August 15. Additionally, the closed season for Murray Cod and Mary River Cod runs from August 1 to October 31 in all Queensland waters within the Murray-Darling Drainage Division.
The Noosa River has been the standout spot this week, delivering some of the best fishing action. For those looking to get out this weekend and brave the conditions, we’ll have live beach worms available all weekend, so be sure to stock up before you head out.
Offshore
Offshore fishing has been similar to last week, with Longtail Tuna being the highlight up at North Reef and Sunshine Reef. Anglers fishing the reefs and the Barwon Banks have also reported catches of Tuskfish, Amberjack and Cobia. Glen at Deep End Fishing Charters reported catches of Sweetlip, Tuskfish, Trevally, Amberjack, Cobia and Kingfish over the past week. Be mindful of the Snapper and Pearl Perch closure, which remains in effect until August 15th.
Estuary
Noosa River has been the pick of the spots this week, with plenty of Bream and Flathead being caught from the river mouth up through the system. Woods Bay has delivered some nice Bream and Tarwhine catches, while the Trevally have been on fire, with some epic Cale Cale catches reported.
The Maroochy River has fished well this week, with Tailor reported at the Cod Hole, along with Trevally. Bream and Flathead are plentiful from the mid-reaches down to the river mouth, with a few Whiting catches reported at Chambers Island and Picnic Point.
Fishos at Caloundra have reported plenty of Bream catches in the passage, along with some good-sized Tailor, Flathead and Whiting. We've also had reports of some epic Cale Cale Trevally catches at Caloundra as well. Some nice-sized Bream have also been caught in Currimundi Lake.
As we head into a wet and windy week, there will still be opportunities to get out on the water, especially in the early mornings when conditions are a bit calmer.
We’ve just restocked our range of Insalt Sunglasses. Polarised and perfect for fishing, they’re a steal at only $49.99.
