Welcome to this week's Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. The next week is bringing warm, summer-like conditions, giving anglers an excellent window to get out on the water. The weekend is looking particularly good for offshore fishing, but as always, make sure to check the latest conditions before heading out. Starting Monday, we can expect windier conditions, so it might be best to focus on onshore activities. For those fishing in the estuaries, early mornings will offer the best conditions.
Offshore
Offshore fishing has been productive over the past week, with Cobia, Yellowtail Kingfish and Amberjack making a strong showing at Caloundra Wide. Anglers using jigs and live bait have had the most success in landing these species. There have been plenty of Snapper and Pearl Perch, along with Tuskfish, Sweetlip, and Amberjack at the Barwon Banks. This weekend is shaping up to be a great time to head offshore, with calmer conditions expected.
Estuary
Noosa River has been active, with Tailor, Bream, and Flathead all being caught in good numbers. Woods Bay has also seen some exciting action, with Jewish and Trevally being the main targets.
In the Maroochy River, Flathead and Jewfish have been found near the mouth, while Trevally are pushing through with the high tide. Whiting and Bream are being caught from the mouth up to Chambers Island, and with Mudcrabs on the move, it’s worth setting some pots.
Caloundra continues to deliver, with plenty of Whiting, Bream, and Flathead being caught in the passage. There are also a few Mudcrabs about, making it a rewarding spot for those dropping pots.
Beach
Beach fishing has been productive, with reports of Tailor along the Kawana stretch. Sunshine Beach has seen catches of Snapper and Tarwhine, while Mudjimba has been delivering Dart, Flathead, and Whiting, with the occasional Jewfish adding to the mix.
Freshwater
The recent rain has raised river levels significantly, leading to high and discoloured water that can make fishing challenging. However, for those willing to put in the effort, there are still opportunities to land some quality fish. Bass, Tilapia, Yellowbelly and Sooty Grunter have been found in the rivers, though they can be picky given the current conditions. Using soft plastic paddle tails has proven effective in enticing these fish to bite, so be sure to have some in your tackle box if you’re heading out.
As we head into the weekend, the forecasted warm and calm conditions make it an ideal time to wet a line. A fresh delivery of live beach worms arrived in store this morning, and we’ve also got plenty of frozen bait options to ensure you’re fully prepared. Whether you’re targeting Snapper offshore or dropping pots for Mudcrabs in the estuaries, we’ve got everything you need to make your trip a success.
