Caloundra

Fishing around Caloundra has proved fruitful over the last week, with catches of flathead, dart, whiting, and tailor off the beaches. Your best chance is during the early morning and late afternoon when the fish are most active. Moving closer to the bar entrance, anglers have reported catches of Queenfish, Trevally, Flathead and Tailor. Tides and currents have played a significant role in attracting these species to this particular area, so make sure you check tide times and conditions before heading out. The passage has been abundant with Bream and good sized Flathead, with prawns and worms your best bet for bait fishing.

Maroochy River

The Maroochy River continues to fish well, with reports of Golden Trevally caught around structures such as jetties, bridges, and rock walls. Try the motorway bridge or Bli Bli bridge. Using soft plastics and live baits has proven effective in enticing these fish. Bream fishing in the Maroochy River has been consistently good, with anglers having success using a variety of baits including prawns, and soft plastics. Flathead and Trevally have also been caught at the Cod Hole. Anglers have found success by casting soft plastic lures or using live bait near drop-offs and deeper sections. In Eudlo Creek, Flathead have been biting well. Drifting with live baits or casting soft plastics along the edges of sandbanks has been a successful technique. Mud crabs have been active further up the river, while sand crabs have been caught closer to the river mouth.

Offshore

Smithy from Smithys Fishing Charters reported catches of Amberjack, Tuskfish, and Hussar at The Hards. The shipping channel has been a hotspot for Snapper, with anglers finding success by fishing with baits such as pilchards, squid, or soft plastics.

Further north, Double Island Point, North Reef, and Sunshine Reef has yielded catches of Pearl Perch, Snapper, Sweetlip, Mulloway, Cobia, and Mackerel. Anglers have employed various techniques including bottom fishing with fresh baits and trolling with lures or live baits to achieve successful outcomes.

Noosa River

Tailor, Flathead, Bream, and Mud Crabs have been caught in good numbers in the Noosa River.
