Man beach fishing

Sunshine Coast Fishing Report | Thursday 30 March 2023

Welcome to this week’s fishing report. Conditions look good for the upcoming Easter school holidays, which makes it a great time to get out and wet a line. If you are planning a trip to the Sunshine Coast for a break, make sure you drop in to our Bli Bli store. We are loaded up with bait including live beach worms, and we’d be happy to recommend some local fishing spots to help make your Easter break a success.

Offshore fishos have reported good numbers of reefies including Tuskfish, Pearl Perch, Snapper, Moses Perch and Hussar off Double Island Point. Noosa has seen good catches of Snapper, Tuskfish, Grassy Sweetlip, Cobia and Spanish Mackerel. Those fishing offshore from Mooloolaba have reported sightings of big schools of Tuna around the Blinker and plenty of Spanish and Spotted Mackerel up to Sunshine. It’s been Mahi Mahi madness around the FADs, with unweighted, cubed up pilchards the bait of choice. There’s also plenty of reef species from Murphys to the Barwon Banks including Tuskfish, Snapper, Grassy Sweetlip, Pearl Perch, Cobia and Moses Perch.

Those fishing inland have had success in the Maroochy River with Whiting and Bream from Chambers Island up to Bli Bli, with good sized Flathead and Jewfish around the mouth. Mangrove Jacks, smaller Jewfish, Flathead have also been caught in good numbers around Dunethin Rock. Twin Waters has been the spot for Tarpon, Barracouta, Golden Trevally and Mangrove Jack. The last couple of hours of the run in tide has seen some big schools of Herring, with small Queenfish GTs and Bigeye Trevally on the chase. Micro jigging with a 7g jig or a 62mm Pro Lure Clone Prawn has been the most successful way to target these speedsters.

Trent and Kai from Bait Master Fishing and Tackle actually got to leave the shop this week and hit the water, with Kai raking in awesome catches of Mahi Mahi. This report wouldn’t be complete without photographic evidence!

That’s a wrap for this week. Don’t forget to drop in and see us next time you’re calling through Bli Bli. We are located at 311 David Low Way or you can shop on our website at www.baitmasterfishing.com.au.

Tight lines and calm seas,
