Welcome to your weekly Sunshine Coast Fishing Report! Due to illness, we were unable to post a report last week, but we are back on deck and ready to prepare you for the coming week of fishing! Conditions look pretty good for the start of the school holidays. Saturday and Sunday look to be perfect offshore, with low winds and swell forecast and no rain in the foreseeable future. Temperatures around 10 - 26 degrees over the weekend should make for a pleasant day on the water. Summer-like temps are forecast on Monday, with temps predicted to reach 29 degrees. Looks like an absolute cracker of a week, perfect for the kids to get out and wet a line.
Offshore
Offshore fishing has been productive, with good catches of Snapper, Pearl Perch, Amberjack, Tuskfish, and Hussar at The Hards. Anglers chasing Yellowtail Kingfish have reported success in front of Moreton Island. Plenty of Snapper are being caught in the shipping channel.
Double Island Point and the North and Sunshine Reefs are hosting species such as Snapper, Pearl Perch, Gold Band Snapper, and Cobia. Similarly, catches of Pearl Perch, Snapper, Amberjack, and Hussar have been reported at the Barwon Banks. North Reef is also serving up some good Pearl Perch, Sweetlip, Spanish Mackerel, and Tuna.
Maroochy River
The Maroochy River has once again proven to be a hotspot with plenty of Golden, Giant, Tea Leaf, and Diamond Trevally being caught from the Cod Hole to Bli Bli. Flathead are still in big numbers, offering anglers plenty of action.
Anglers have started to report Tailor making an appearance around Twin Waters and the river mouth, with some even being caught off the beach. Now might be a good time to chase these feisty fish as they start to show up in larger numbers.
For those with a taste for crustaceans, Sand Crabs have been found around the river mouth, with Muddies in the upper reaches.
Noosa
In the Noosa River, tailor, flathead, bream, and mud crabs have been caught in good numbers. A few Trevally have also been reported in the upper reaches. Off the beach, there’s been some good sized flathead and few tuna caught further north on metal slugs, with tailor also reported up towards Double Island Point.
Caloundra
In Caloundra, anglers have reported catches of flathead, dart, whiting, and tailor off the beaches. The passage has been abundant with bream and good-sized flathead, with prawns and worms proving to be the best bet for bait fishing.
